The criteria for my groove was that it would give those who hear it a good impression of the restaurant or café where it was played. In particular, I selected songs with aspects that’d make listeners forget the passage of time. As music functions as a part of JAM17, it’s my hope this groove harmonizes with its atmosphere and that the pieces I’ve selected will reach the ears of a lot of people.
Dr.Shingo
Active as the DJ Dr. Shingo in and outside of Japan, he also owns Osaka-ya, an okonomiyaki restaurant in Kabukicho, and is representative director of the Kabukicho Shopping District Association. In 1997, he enrolled at the Berklee College of Music in the US to major in jazz, but while there he encountered German techno, which led him to focus on computer music. Upon returning to Japan in 1999, he became active in the club scene. He released his debut single “Have you ever seen the blue comet?” and his first album, Dr. Shingo’s Space Odd-yssey , in 2002. He later released the albums ECLIPSE (2004) and Initiation (2006) and became a leading presence in the Japanese techno scene. In 2023, he organized the final year of CONNECT Kabukicho, an urban music festival held across the district.
